SERVICING FAQs

IS IT NECESSARY TO HAVE MY CARAVAN / MOTORHOME SERVICED?

Your caravan or motorhome should be serviced regularly to ensure that it is roadworthy and that there has been no deterioration to its condition.  If it is under warranty, it will need to be serviced within a specified time to ensure the warranty continues and remains valid.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD MY CARAVAN / MOTORHOME BE SERVICED

A service should be done every year on your caravan or motorhome even if it has only been used a few times – problems can also occur through lack of use. If there is warranty on your vehicle, then an annual service will need to be completed within a set period to maintain the warranty.

DO I HAVE TO HAVE MY CARAVAN SERVICED EACH YEAR TO MAINTAIN MY CARAVAN WARRANTY?

Yes - All Caravan and Motorhome manufacturers insist that your caravan or motorhome must receive an annual service and damp check and be carried out by an AWS Service Centre or an Approved Dealer/Workshop to ensure that your warranty remains valid.

As part of the manufacturer’s warranty terms & conditions, there is a specified time limit as to when the caravan or motorhome service is carried out. Original VAT invoices and damp reports must also be retained as proof that the annual services have been carried out in accordance with their warranty terms. It is strongly recommended that all caravan and motorhome owners read the warranty terms & conditions which is normally contained within the manufacturer’s handbook. We cannot express enough that failure to have your caravan serviced each year will invalidate your caravan and motorhome manufacturer’s warranty. This is beyond our control, and we must adhere to the manufacturer’s terms & conditions.

WHAT IS THE AWS (APPROVED WORKSHOP SCHEME)?

The Approved Workshop Scheme is a collaboration between the National Caravan Council, The Caravan and Motorhome Club and The Camping and Caravanning Club, which is supported by all the major British caravan and motorhome manufacturers.  To be part of the scheme, all workshops must undertake an annual inspection and comply with the rigorous standards and expectations of the scheme.  Further information can be found at www.approvedworkshops.co.uk

ARE YOU A MEMBER OF THE APPROVED WORKSHOP SCHEME?

Yes, we are proud members of the AWS (Approved Workshop Scheme).  Both our fixed based workshop and mobile workshop are independently assessed annually and comply with the scheme’s rigorous standards and expectations.

HOW LONG SHOULD A CARAVAN SERVICE TAKE?

A caravan or motorhome habitation service normally takes around 2 to 4 hours. The duration of a service will depend upon any issues being found and/or the age of the caravan or motorhome. In most cases, we would normally complete a standard caravan service the same day.

WHAT HAPPENS IF FAULTS ARE FOUND DURING THE SERVICE?

Any faults found which are not covered by warranty, will be chargeable at our standard labour rate.  Except for very minor faults, these may not be rectified on the same day and will need to be re-booked for another visit for completion.

AFTER THE SERVICE WHAT DOCUMENTS WILL I RECEIVE?

Once we have received full payment for the service, a detailed invoice is issued together with the service report & damp report.

HOW FAR IN ADVANCE DO I NEED TO BOOK MY SERVICE?

We would advise booking at least 8 - 12 weeks in advance for a service to ensure you can be booked in within your warranty time limit. Obviously, certain times of the year are busier than others, so we do advise early booking. Some customers even book 12 months in advance to ensure they secure the date they need!

DO I NEED TO EMPTY MY CARAVAN OR MOTORHOME FOR A SERVICE?

It is preferred that your personal belongings are removed, enabling for a safer environment for our technicians to work in. For health & safety reasons, we do require the main walkway within the caravan or motorhome to be clear. We will require certain items to be left with the caravan to carry out the service, such as the water pump/inlet hose & gas bottle. If you are unsure of what you need to remove, please contact us.

WILL MY GAS APPLIANCES BE SERVICED DURING THE ANNUAL SERVICE?

Gas appliances are safety checked but not serviced as part of the annual habitation service. We do offer a gas appliance service at an extra cost.

HOW IMPORTANT IS IT TO SERVICE A GAS APPLIANCE?

Carbon monoxide poisoning is a real danger in both the home and your leisure vehicle. It is therefore important to consider having your gas appliances serviced annually by a competent gas engineer and consider using an audible carbon monoxide alarm.

DO YOU SERVICE MOTORHOME ENGINES & CHASSIS?

No, we only service the habitation area of the motorhome. We would advise contacting a local commercial vehicle service centre or your motorhome dealer who will have the facilities to do this.
